We’re letting it allll out with our frustrations about photographers, and boy do we have stuff to say! We are challenging photographers to think differently about how they work on the wedding day, keeping the videographers in mind.

We started our wedding careers shooting just video, so early on we worked with a lot of photographers. At first we felt pretty disrespected as creatives and didn’t feel like we were able to assert ourselves in getting the shots we needed. As time went on we feel that photographers in general have understood the importance of video and the need to collaborate as a team, but even today there are still some common things we see when working with other photographers.

Like videographers not being ready for the first look, but the photographer starts it anyway, faking moments for a photo, and staging everything. We aren’t there to make moments happen, we are there to capture the moments.

Overall we understand photographers are not doing all of these things to be malicious, it’s a lack of awareness of their partner in the creative process. Think about it, a photo takes 1/800 of a second to capture a moment, but video needs the 2 seconds before and 2 seconds after. So by excitedly running into our shot to show the couple your photo, you ruin the moment for video. It’s important to remember that everyone there is a part of a team for the bride and groom, we need to work hard to work together and create the most stress-free day for the couple.

Once again, we have seen this issue improve tremendously over the years, but this is also a big reason why we now offer photo / video packages. Not only does booking a team that shoots both simultaneously ensure that the styles align, but couples can rest assured that your photo and video team will work together with the same goal in mind – capturing the story of the day.
